Frome institution to housing
Programmes and services for homeless people and accomodation posibilities in Slovenia are, compared to other european countries, jet on a very basic level. There is a trend of establishing only temporary and/or urgent accomodation for homeless people (shelters), while european trends are going towards the development of holistic, permanent programmes of housing support.
Currently available data and results of research in the field of homelessness in Europe and worldwide make it clear that is long-term more affordable to reverse it with policies of social integration, rather than maintaining it and on a daily basis facing harm-reduction actions (social, health, financial and relational).
At the premises of National rehabilitation institut Soca in Ljubljana there was on 24. april 2012 held professional panel names "From institution to housing", which gain quite a lot of interest in professional and laic public.
The main goal of panel was to encourage dialog among organizations in the filed of practice and their support environment (funders, legistrators...). As speakers we invited slovenian professionals in the field of homelessness and also representatives from the support environment, which is making such programmes possible. Only with discussion and construcitve dialog we can achieve more radical changes, which will contribute to improved quality of living.
